The 37th IFPA-Fletcher Conference on National Security Strategy and Policy

"A New Maritime Strategy for 21st - Century National Security"

This is an invitation to the 37th IFPA-Fletcher Conference on National Security Strategy and Policy. This year’s topic is A New Maritime Strategy for 21st-Century National Security. The Conference is organized by the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA), and the International Security Studies Program of The Fletcher School, Tufts University, with the cosponsorship of the Naval War College and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

The Conference will be held on September 26-27, 2007 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. Speakers and participants include representatives from the Administration, military services, combatant commands, Congress, academia, industry, the media, and from overseas. As in past conferences, we anticipate at least 400 attendees so early registration is highly recommended because space is limited.

Issues to discuss will include:

* The new security setting and requirements for twenty-first-century maritime capabilities
* Core mission areas, including sea lane protection and support for land operations, for dissuasion, deterrence, and crisis management
* New and emerging missions, including WMD interdiction, special operations, missile defense, humanitarian relief, and cyber operations
* Enhancing cooperation between the U.S. Navy and the other services
* Regional/theater priorities as viewed by the combatant commands
* Developing cooperative maritime relationships with allies and coalition partners
* A long-term strategy for innovation, modernization, and transformation for the science-technology, industry base in support of the New Maritime Strategy
